Eleven Miles of Night: Reading #88:

The cornfield was a fair distance from him; but he could make out two patterns of shifting, bouncing stalks. The corn had grown faster than usual this season, so that it was now almost at the knee-high-Fourth-of-July level. Jason could not see the figures moving through the cornfield; but he somehow knew—as crazy as it was—that if he walked close enough, he would see two scarecrows crawling through the June corn. The patterns of movement were converging toward each other, and they were moving in the direction of the near edge of the field.
