What did and didn't happen on July 4th?

Some of this you probably didn't know. 

To me, the most interesting one (which I had already known from my reading about Adams and Jefferson) was this one:

"On July 4, 1826, Adams, the second president, and Jefferson, the third president, both died, exactly 50 years after the adoption of Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence. The country took it as a sign of American divinity."
Former presidents Jefferson and Adams had long been estranged over political differences. But near the end of their lives, they achieved a reconciliation of sorts.
